Happy Valentine's Day (Yeah, Right)

Hello Friends! Those who know me understand that I am not particularly fond of that evil day called Valentine's Day (or, Black Thursday), but despite the fact that it is coming up I am in love, big time. With jazz. Sigh. So it's time for an update on the love of my life.

I've posted a new entry at LAJazz.com entitled "Sophisticated Lady," a little peek at how humbling the live music experience can be. And then I wanted to tell you about some stuff coming up in February!

Thursday-Sunday, February 14-17: Newport Beach Jazz Party in Newport Beach. So, this is definitely not in Los Angeles, and it is definitely not for the faint of heart, but this is a really good jazz time. I'm checking out as much of it as I can manage, so if you are interested let me know and we can connect!

Monday, February 18: Jeff Hamilton with Atsuko & Yutaka Hashimoto at Pasadena Jazz Institute in Pasadena. Kids, it's the Hammond B3 organ again - this is a rare chance to hear Ms. Hashimoto "put her foot in it" as they say in the south. I'm definitely in for this - who's coming with me?

Saturday, February 23: Dena De Rose Trio at the Airtel Hotel in Van Nuys. I'm moving this weekend so can't go to this show, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't! Dena's piano playing is very compelling and she's got a great voice - and she's not in town too often. Get on out there, OK?

Thursday, February 28: John Beasley Trio at Spazio, Sherman Oaks. A perpetual favorite and a good friend, I'm excited about this show as I'll be living in the Valley again by the 28th! If any Valley folks (or otherwise) are up for a weeknight out, let me know!

That's all for now - be good and I'll see you out there!
