August Sneak Peek....
...but wait - there's still more JULY left!!!
Just wanted to flag a few things for you all before my August update. Looking for something to do this month? Check out the following MUST SEE / MUST DO events:
Wednesday, July 25: Dale Fielder Quartet CD release party at The Jazz Bakery in Culver City. I've heard great things about this baritone sax player and would be there in a heartbeat if I could. If you're around, check it out!
Various Dates (below): Jeff Hamilton featuring Atsuko Hashimoto and Ron Eschete (on guitar, some dates) / Houston Person (tenor sax, other dates). I've said it before and I'll say it again. Don't. Miss. This. How often do you get to hear the jazz organ? Ms. Hashimoto plays it like nobody's business, and as a Hammy I make a point to catch as many local Jeff Hamilton shows as I can. Here's the scoop:
Saturday / Sunday, July 28-29: Pasadena Jazz Institute in Pasadena (der) w/ Ron Eschete
Tuesday, July 31: Crowne Plaza LAX in Century City w/ Houston Person
Wednesday / Thursday, August 1-2: Pasadena Jazz Institute in Redondo Beach (just seeing if you're paying attention) w/ Houston Person
Friday / Saturday, August 3-4: Steamers in Fullerton w/ Houston Person
Friday, August 3: Evan Stone Trio at Red, White & Bluezz in Pasadena. One of the great things about being an unapologetic jazz junkie is getting CDs from musicians who would ordinarily fly under my radar. I got a copy of Evan Stone's latest CD and it is absolutely amazing. Finally getting a chance to hear him live! Hooray!
Sunday, August 5: Thurman Green Scholarship Brunch at Catalina's Jazz Club in Hollywood, featuring Barbara Morrison and Phil Ranelin. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than to enjoy some great music and support an important music program. I'll definitely be there - hope to see you there!
That's all for now... There's lots more great stuff coming up in August, so be on the lookout for a full update in a couple of weeks! Until then, I'll see you out there!
Enjoy the music,
